Fat-Free Panda

It’s official. Despite the intense efforts of some of my Washington, DC, blogging colleagues the new name for the Panda cub at the National Zoo will NOT be Butterstick, but instead will be Tai Shan (which apparently means something innocuous like ‘Strong Mountain’ as opposed to my favorite name Gou Shi which Mandarin slang for “Crap” or more literally translated as ‘dog shit’).

In related news, the zoo has also announced with great sorrow that it continues in its fine tradition of killing its residents. Two-year-old Jafari the giraffe, unfortunately had to be euthanized after complications from skin cancer.

Sunscreen donations for Gou Shi Tai Shan can be sent care of the Friends of the National Zoo.
